Ds2 is currently on Clarithromycin started 2nd course yesterday but he is so wheezy this morning.
He has had ventolin, atrovent and flixotide 45 mins ago but is still wheezy.
Should I give antibiotics a chance to kick in or should we be heading off to A&E?

A+e or emergency appt with gp.

Is he happy in himself feeding etc or really struggling? If latter def a+e.

Sorry prob won't be able to post again for a while but didn't want your post to go unanswered

Hazeyjane · 27/10/2010 09:41

If you aren't at a+e already, then I'd say take him.

Hope he is ok.

Saw Gp who gave Ds2 a nebuliser then sent us on our way to hospital to seen by a pead.
After another nebuliser treatment and some steroids Ds2 starts to perk up so we have been allowed home with some steroids and strict instructions to go back in if Ds2 gets worse.
Ds2 is currently tucked up in bed hopefully he will stay there.

Glad he's ok for now. The steroids really help.

If you are in any doubt over night taken him to A&E. They can go downhill quite fast when they are so little.

Best of luck.

Poor you, been there too and it's so scary. I really hope he has a fairly peaceful night. My DS is just finishing a course of clarithromycin and it's taken till about day 5 to see a real improvement in his wheeze. If your DS needs support in the meantime, don't wait for the antibiotics, do get him help immediately.

alibobins · 27/10/2010 20:26

He is so much better than this morning I shoud have known he needed the hospital :( we have done it all before with Ds1 for some reason I didn't want to admit he might be the same as his brother :(

Am so glad. It's all new for us, am holding on to the dr's assurance that it'll ease as he grows up...

Hope he continues to improve.

Me too Pixie I can explain it all clearly to someone else but when it is happening to DD I seem to lose my confidence completely.

FWIW I met a lovely nurse the last time dd was admitted with an attack. She has been a paediatric nurse for years and said when her own ds had a wheezy attack at 9 months old she dithered about at home for ages trying to decide what to do before bringing into hospital. So even the professionals find it hard.

Oh that is a good idea Pixie. I've made my own version for my sons inhaler bag for when he goes to friends houses after school (and they act like I've given them something alien) but a proper one would be brilliant

Asthma UK do make this attack card, although it's for adults as well as children

Ali hope they can get him onto a good preventer that will work for next time at least on Wednesday, and hopefully they'll give him something to help now, what has he got at the moment?

alibobins · 01/11/2010 11:34

He's already on Flixotide, Atrovent, Ventolin and the consultant started him on Singular on 13t Oct
At the mo he is still on clarithromycin too :(
