Glandular fever in 3 year old?

I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience of glandular fever in young children. My ds1 is 3 and for the last 2 weeks has been extremely tired and pale. He comes and goes a bit but generally just has no energy.

I took him to the doctor on Friday and was told it was likely he was suffering from glandular fever/post viral fatigue as his glands and tonsils were both huge. Although he has no sore throat, he did have a very bad bout of tonsilitis at the end of July.

My husband spoke to the doctor again this morning as I am getting a bit worried about him. He wants to see him again later this week if there is no change - I think he didn't want to rush into blood tests as all the signs as far as he is concerned point to a post viral fatigue or glandular fever.

Has anyone had something similar with their dc?

Poor boy 3 is very young. My DS age 8 had glandular fever in November last year, the GP did a bood test to confirm, he was off school very sick for 3 weeks although he would suddenly perk up for a few hours and i would think he will be back at school tomorrow then he would literally flop and collapse altogether.

It took about 6 months for him to recover all his strength and energy and I have been told by lots of people that was quick - apparently it usually affects 14-18 year olds, so younger kids recover quicker. I was was given lots of advice and none really worked so I won't bother you with it!
Basically its a virus so all you can do is rest and wait, just like the flu really only it wipes you out and the recovery is very long. Good luck.

Thanks atah, will wait to see if it is really glandular fever and if so be prepared for a long recovery!
