What's in your first aid kit?

My first aid supplies BC consisted of cushioned plasters and a nail file. I've since expanded it to include calpol, but feel I ought to be better equipped with stuff to treat my 2yo when he suffers some inevitable calamity.

So I'm after some top tips please! Things that have proved invaluable time and time again, things that you've only used once but have always carried with you since, and things you bought but were rubbish or you now can't see ever being useful.

Any advice much appreciated, especially if it stops me buying everything Boots has to offer out of PFB mum-guilt!

in mine is
plasters
savlon
child paracetamol/ibuprofen medicines
a small packet of cotton wool pads(in case of conjunctivitis/problems with sticky eye or generally cleaning a scrape or graze)for soaking in boiled cooled water
and that's it

Suggest you include an eye bath in your "at home" kit. This is the first thing I went to after my two year old sprayed kitchen cleaner in her eye while "helping". My god I was glad to have it. DH has used it too.

Also tweezers for removing splinters.

There's a paste you can use to help remove splinters too. We've got that, but I'm too lazy to walk up the stairs and have a look. Nothing personal.

I also have TubiGrip bandages, an antihistamine (sp?) cream and a couple of cool pads.
Plus the bog standard Calpol, Nurofen, Plasters, Dressing, ordinary bandage etc.

Thanks all, these are great. Off to clear space in a cupboard to keep it all in :)

A stethoscope LauraNorder? Sounds expensive... will DS's toy one do?

Grin do you know what it may well be fine to use your DS's. When I was a student nurse our course tutor recommended (of the record) the ELC one if we couldn't afford a 'proper' one!

DH is a Dr so our first aid kit is a bit OTT but dead handy when the children are poorly. Very reassuring, but has made me a wimp when he goes away and they're ill even though I'm a nurse Shock

off the record
