Over sensitive sick reflex in 10 moth old?

Ds2 caught a cold about 6 weeks ago which, combined with teething dribble, gave him a horrible cough. The cold went but the cough didn't. The GP couldn't hear anything on his chest and he has no temperature, is chirpy most of the time and eats reasonably well.

But (and it's a 'but' causing so many problems) he still coughs and often projectile vomits as a result, often with no warning. There's usually a gap of a few days in between episodes (although the cough is ever present) and it also happens when he puts his fingers too far in his mouth or a small lump of food catches the back of his throat. He's not interested in smaller and more frequent meals and is really hungry at mealtimes. He has a mixture of mashed and finger food, although we've found ourselves having to go back to almost pure puree, even though he can chew lumps most of the time.

We've had to stop going to things like playgroup as I'm afraid that he'll throw up over everyone/everything. It can happen at any time of day, even hours after a meal.

Any experiences of this with your dc?

yes, DS2 spent most of last winter throwing up! it was when he was between 5 and 11 months when it was at it's worst. even a small coughing fit would result in a puke.

he also suffered greatly with ear infections which were (we think) making him feel queasy a lot of the time so it didn't take much for him to gag.

he's now had grommits fitted and as a result no more ear infections. even though he had a bad cough last week he didn't throw up once. he's now 19 months old.

i'm guessing in your DC's case it's just a case of the gag reflux needing time to mature?

Thank for replying countrylover. I think that I'll make another GP appointment and just get his ears checked too. He loves looking at the world upside down and is constantly tipping his head or shaking it from side to side. I thought that he enjoyed the sensation, but his ears might feel odd too. No temp though, so hopefully no infection.
