Hello, DD (almost 4) has big problems getting shoes - the structure of her foot is such that wherever we try, they just don't have any to fit her. One problem is that she 'leans' over a long way - should I try to get her some sort of insert to prop her ankles up? She is also v wide at the front and v narrow at the back. Will the GP laugh at me if I ask for advice?!

You might need to see a podiatrist, but I think your GP should be able to refer you. Do you mean that her ankles roll in towards each other? Mine did that, and I had really badly fallen arches. I saw a podiatrist privately and now have a set of orthotic insoles which I wear in all my shoes.

have the same problem with my dd. by leaning over you mean the insides of her feet.

My dd also has flatish feet.

I wouldn't start putting thigns in her shoes without seeing a qualified orthotics specialist, this you can do by getting reffered by your gp.

My dd has never had a pair of normal school shoes, the choice is rubbish and they never support her. In winter she has clarks boots, but i found after 2 weeks of searching this yr that the wide part of the front of her foot meant we had to go up half a size bigger than measured.

Not fitters suggested it, i just happened upon a pair of boots that they only had in a half size bigger than she was. Et Voila, they fitted!

In summer i go for Timberland sandals.
