Lots n lots of Chicken Pox... HELP!?

DS(4) is covered head to toe in quite nasty looking chicken pox, but he also seems to have them in his mouth and ears as well as his scalp.

Can I put calomiine lotion on his hair? and is there a way to stop him scratching the inside his mouth and ears?

The spots developed on Saturday and have got progressively worse, I don't know a lot about them (even though I've had them 3 bloody times), he has apparently had them before but I was doubtful then and even more so now. We've been inside since noticed the spots.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can put lotion in his hair.
I don't think there is a lot you can do about the mouth and ears, but you might try some antihistimine (Piriton or similar) as it should help with the itching.

You could give him lots of baths with a handful of bicarb in which might help. Also if you add a handful of porridge oats in an old pair of tights to the bath that can help with the itching.

I reckon the third day of spots is the worst, so after today/tomorrow things should begin to ease.

Re his mouth: would cold drinks/ice lollies help?

I was told not to use calamine lotion, as was told that this can actually dry out the skin and make the itch worse.
Would your DS be persuaded to use gloves to help him stop scratching?
Hope that your DS feels better soon - chicken pox can be miserable.

Antihistamine definitely, as Halib said, and try to get some aqueous calamine instead of straight calamine, from the chemist - if you can get out at all without him (or leave him in car if you have one)
it's meant to be better somehow.

Good luck, poor mite.

I can't drive so unfortunately can't really get out with DS and DP does'nt finsih work until 5pm.

I have aqeous as DS has eczema would it help to bathe him with that an add calomine or could I mix the 2?

Sorry if I sound daft just that as I say I have no idea about these things.

He seems to be fine now other than scratching but he's not too bad, not as bad as I was expecting actually.

I'd mix them up! Smile

I think it's just a mixture - the aqueous stops it drying out the skin.

Should itch less. Saves you a trip as well!

Thak you, poor DS is now caked in baby pink gloop :o

Have just made a big tub of aqueous calomine so much easier to put on than the liquid lotion itself!
