HOW MUCH DOES YOUR TWO YEAR OLD BOY WEIGH?

Shocked to discover that ds weighs 36lbs. Is this too much? He has asthma and we were at his check up the other day wehn they mentioned that it's a lot for a boy of nearly two (turns two next week) Absolutely loves his food, very good eater (obviously!) but all healthy stuff eaten but now I'm thinking that I need to reduce what he eats, I don't think he look fat as such, definitely sturdy and not skinny. He's 86cm btw, just wondered really about other's boys?

DS3 is 3 now, I have no idea how tall he is or how much he weights, but I know he's taller than most of the Reception children at DS2's school, and could quite easily slot into a YR1 class without looking out of place.

Think he was 16kg last time he was weight at 2 1/2 (ish) - height - pass - he wouldn't stand still long enough for us to get an accurate measurement.

He slowed down during his "2's" - but has shot up again recently, thankfully his size 11 feet don't look out of place on his body Grin

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:30

I guess, expat. Lots of tall people in the States, true. I live in France now, where that's not the case Grin.

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:30

My DS's were 54 and 56cm long when they were born. - All weighed under 8lb though

People frequently now ask if DS1 and 2 are twins (there's 3yrs 3 months between them) as DS2 just seems to keep on growing Hmm

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:32

Yeah, DD was 51 cm- which is average, but 4.350kg- looked like a little Buddha.

I would think anything in the high 50s would be v.long, but 60...

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:35

DS2 and 3's charts look quite odd, they start off just above average, then by 1 month old have shot to the top. DS3 was 3 weeks early though, hate to think how long he'd have got if he'd stayed put until he was actually due Shock

Poor DS1 I think is going to be the shorty like me, he looks positively tiny compared to many of his peers

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:35

I really think it's the mixed races thing that is really, really common there, tbh, winny.

People don't think twice about it in most cities, and you wind up with folks who are 'Heinz 57' and super tall.

Shoes for men are sold in shops till US size 14, for example. It's only after that that you're looking at custom and even then, a lot of 'Big and Tall' shops will carry to size 16.

It's not at all uncommon to see women 6ft. and over. Just look at 'America's Next Top Model' and you see girls who are a blend of several races and easily 6ft.

The media here focuses on how fat they all are, but they miss out the tens of millions of very tall, thin ones.

BIL loves shopping in the US, because, even though he is 6ft., 5in., he can easily find clothes to fit in just about any shop.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:36

DD2 is dinky, MaMo.

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:39

I lived in NY for years, expat, you're right. I guess having been surrounded by erm...not very tall people here I forgot.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:41

When we went back to the US on KLM earlier this year, the attendants were all very kind.

DS was playing up. I said, 'Oh, he is only 18 months old.'

They said, 'Ah, could be Dutch, by the height of him!'

We got stranded at the airport in Amsterdam.

DD1 took to playing with 2 French girls in the children's area.

They asked, in excellent English, her name, her age and where she was from.

Then they expressed their shock to each other in French, which I could thankfully understand, and said, 'Ah, that explains it! She didn't seem English at all. But some of those Scots are so fair and big like Viking. Ecosse.' and went back to playing with her.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:42

Have a visit back, winny. Look at the NY Knicks team. Tall blokes, many either from Africa or half-African.

I'm short myself. Only 5ft., 4in.

DD1's head is getting a bit above my shoulders already.

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:43

so is DS1 these days. irrc last time we measured him (not too long ago) he was about 140cm - which is 4ft 7 - and he's 10!!

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:45

MaMo, he won't go through his spurt till he's 16 or 17, though. He is half-African. It wouldn't surprise me if he's well over 6ft. after that.

My niece didn't even date, until now! Over the summer, the boys finally started shooting up.

Her little 'boyfriend' was 5ft., 9in. in April.

He is now 6ft., 3in. and 17.

She is in heaven :).

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:47

I want to go back- soooo badly. No money at the mo, though. I've got friends there, but the flight's just too expensive. Plus DP works a lot and DD's too little. DS was born there and really wants to go. In a few years...

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:48

Yes but DS2 is almost the same height now, and DS3 is off the charts.

He's definitely going to be dinky - not sure he'll make it to 6ft Grin

Looking at photos of exH and his family - the tall ones (99% of them) were all tall and gangly by their early teens. Just the odd short one that stayed short.

My nieces and newphews that live here in the UK are all tall as well, WELL before they hit 16/17 Grin

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:49

MaMo- I think boys often go through growth spurts in their late teens- I know DP was v.average and then grew quite a few inches at 17-18.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:50

Mine have nationality through me, but they need to live there at least 5 years with two of them being when they were over 14 to pass it on.

That's why I've got my sights on MaMo's DS1. :o

I can just see it! The Scots-Mexican/American and the English/Zimbabwean. In America.

No one would bat an eye and the kids would be basketball players :o.

IMoveTheStars · 17/10/2010 01:51

'Heinz 57' ???

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:52

Grin - expat - I hope DS1's comment about what "up the duff" means hasn't put you off Wink.

DS1 playing basketball

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:52

Her DS1 is going to be a famous chef and DD1 a model. Perfect for America, where they can go on the back of her nationality.

They'll be rich and famous and they'll buy their mummies a house :o.

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:53

If you want a tall basketball player - you're probably best keeping your eye on DS2 - he's more into sport and is heading to be much taller........though there's STIFF competition for him, I know of at least 3 girls in his year that have already told their mothers that when they get older they're going to marry him.......

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:53

Even better! He's going to be a basketball player but he always preferred a British girl.

I see a reality TV series called 'Only in America' and this big flock of kids. ££££££

:o

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:54

DD1 prefers the shy type.

Yep, I can see me and MaMo in our big house.

Smoking permitted! :o

winnybella · 17/10/2010 01:56

If DS was born there he can pass his nationality to his kids, right? Never thought to inquire into that.

MaMoTTaT · 17/10/2010 01:56

hmm shy you say......DS1 is more the shy one, though I've seen that disappearing recently - think he's suddenly started getting interest from the girls.........

DS2 and 3 definitely not shy.

expatinscotland · 17/10/2010 01:58

Ach, well, he's getting interest. My Scottish girl will just cooly blow them out of the water all the way.

:o

Like that line in the Amy Macdonald song, 'Won't you buy me a drink and I'll tell her what I think if she gets in my way.'

Spoken like a true Scotswoman!
