DS2 age 3 was referred to hospital childrens ward yesterday with suspected meningitis. He was pretty much immediately discharged as he didn't have a temperature but I don't feel like I got a diagnosis as to what his problem was (was told it was like to be a neck strain Hmm).

I have lots of family members who suffer with migraines and to me it seems ds2 had all the classic signs. He went floppy, tired, very pale and started to complain that the back of his head and neck hurt. He lay on my lap and said "look at the rainbows" (we were in a dark cafe - no rainbows!). Started to feel sick, I gave his calpol and he perked up (just as be arrived at hospital typically). When we got home he started crying with headache at front as well as back, was sick and then fell asleep.

Today he is completely fine. He had a milder version of this last weekend, and I know that my mum often has sort of mini migraines on the build up to a big one. When I asked at the hospital about this they just said he was a bit young.

Don't want to google too much as have scared myself with self diagnosis in the past Grin. If migraine is a possibility rather than a bug of some sort I would go and see the GP, it was very scary yesterday.

poor thing Sad . It does sound like migraine , My ds was diagnosed with migraines when he was 9yrs old but started to suffer from them at 7yrs old . I find giving him small snacks every 3 hours helps & not letting him eat too much cheese / chocolate . Definitely think you should take him to your GP & get advice .

Children can get migraines although it is rarer.
But you do mention a strong family history.

You'll likely need to go through your G.P. for a neurology appt in order to be sure.

I'd start by trying to keep a diary of when these happen, any food or activity which might spark them off, how long they last etc.

Very helpful when you get seen.
