itchy bottom

My dd started preschool in september and started complaining about itchy bottom. I don't know that they are related. I'm going to take her to GP if I can today but just in case I don't get to see one until Monday, could it be yeast infection? I looked in her bottom last night thinking it could be threadworms, but there was white spotty things in her anus. She says that her vagina itches as well but there is only tiny normal redness and nothing visible.

I wonder what it is...and hopefully it's not infectious as I had enough of nits!

probably worms which can be treated with over the counter medication (Ovex) > all family takes a tablet. wash bedding and towels ,dont share towels , wash Pyjamas or whatever she wears at night daily .

Straightforward- just another childhood 'ailment' like nits Smile

oh gosh. yucky. But aren't the worms supposed to be moving around? Should we just take the medicine? I have 8 months old as well, and would she have to take it?

The worms come out to lay eggs at night so aren't always visible. You could catch a poo and have a look - but it wouldn't hurt to just treat you all anyway. Ovex comes in liquid form too but the chemist will tell you if it's suitable for your 8 month old. It's really common. Especially with pre-schoolers.

Oh how I hate thread worms.... i'll never forget my 2 yr old staring happily into her potty saying 'look mummy, a little worm'..... and there was... uurrrggggh! All white and wiggly.

For weeks afterwards once everyone had been dosed she'd look sadly at her poos in the potty and sigh sadly with much disappointment saying 'no worms mummy'.

As others have said, just buy the worming dose - your pharmacist will be able to talk you through it all - whole family need to take it.
