Any one else heard of it? My 4 year old daughter has it (has since she was 2 and a half). Doctor told me it was to do with hormone levels, that it was very common in preschool age girls and that there was no treatment, it would clear up of it's own accord as her hormone levels change. But I don't know anyone else who's daughter has/had it (not that they are admitting anyway).

Yes, it is very common until puberty. Puberty sorts it out (hormones). We were advised not to use any soaps/bath stuff and when washing her hair either use shower or stand her up in bath so she does not sit in soapy water. I think you can get some cream (DO NOT USE SUDOCREM, CAUSES AGONY) if she is very sore. Also, no tight clothing and only pure cotton underpants. And of course being very careful with wiping (i.e. from front to back and not other way round). We followed all this advice (from paed) with our dd and she does not seem to have any problems any more (fingers crossed). And yes, apparently it is very common - so either people don't notice or don't want to talk about it.

Thanks dikkertjedap. The advice we had was the same really. I don't think it bothers her as much as it did, but it flares up sometimes and hasn't totally gone. How old is your daughter now? It's reasuring to know that there really are other girls out there with the condition, but as you see by the number of replies to this, not many people seem to want to talk about it.

My dd1 (now 5) has suffered from this for the last two years. It is horrid. She also gets anal fissures, poor kid! The gp gave us some 1% hydrocortisone cream to be used sparingly arund the clitoral hood (sorry if too graffic) it did help, but it does come back from time to time, and she does scream with it. sorry.

Dd has had this since she was a toddler as well. She doesn't have so many problems now we don't have a bath in the house at all. She does have to be reminded not to get over enthusiastic with my shower gels answer soaps when she is in the shower. I have often wondered if people just don't realise or notice because it did just start in dd with her saying it was a bit sore and i initially put it down to her not wiping properly.

DD is 4.5. She loves bath foam, soaps etc, but she is strictly not allowed to use it, the few times we did let her have a little it flared up straight away, so we are really strict on the no bathfoam/gels etc (moved it all out of the bathroom). Also, she tends to get thrush really easily (this seems to be a common problem as well according to our paed), so we use a little canesten now and then, seems to do the trick. She does eat yogurt, gets extra vitamins, has healthy diet, but according to our paed little girls are just prone to get these things.
