White Poo @ 4 months

Hiya, really good do with your thoughts:

Yesterday my parents decided that my DD was ready to start weaning so they gave her some c&g baby porridge, and told me do the same with a small amount today, so I did. It was a tiny amount. After just over an hour later she had an explosive nappy, and within it was white pellets mixed in with clear mucus, (no normal coloured poo for a formula fed baby). She was quite distressed, as as I was changing her more came, in a diareha (sorry spelling) kinda way. Again an hour later there was a second white nappy and she has just done a third, all white pellets and clear mucus.

I didnt object to my parents attempting to start weaning her as she is 4months, and clearly showing signs that she is ready to wean, but im now concerned that her tummy isnt quite there yet, so have decided to not feed her anything more for a while, but obviously Im really concerned that white mucus poo isnt normal. How quickly should I be seeking medical attention, if I should at all.

Hope somebody can help, Sounds silly probably but Im very concerned at her distress (and nappys) Sad

No idea, but I wouldn't give her any more for a while as it sounds like she isn't digesting it peoperly.
Her upset tummy may just be a coincidence.
It isn't really your parents place to decide to start weaning your child. You need to take more responsibility. Not saying they did anything terrible, but it should have been your informed decision and not theirs.

I thought they say to not wean until 6 months because their digestive system isn't up to it yet? Confused

But every baby is different. I would go with sticking to milk for the time being and try her again in a few weeks.

According to HV and GP, there are more calories in milk than anything solid at the moment, so if it looks like a hunger thing, then more milk is probably the answer rather than solids. The solids will take longer to digest (and therefore increase the gap between feeds) but they will be more hungry afterwards from not having the calories, so it's counterproductive IYSWIM.

(I also have a 4mo DD, so have just had this chat with HV & GP)

Hope she's feeling better.
