What should I do about this huge veruka ???

Hi, my 5 year old daughter has a huge veruka on the ball of her foot and annother smaller one on the other heel.
The one on the ball of her foot must feel like walking on a marble. She says it dosn't hurt, and I know they say just to leave it if it dosn't hurt as treatment can be painful.
I was wondering if there was any treatment that isn't painful? Maybe a herbal remedy?
I know she isn't just pretending it isn't painful so that I won't touch it, as she has a foot massage before bed time and never says it hurts then.

Strap banana skins to it - works a treat apparently!

MadameCastafiore · 11/10/2010 19:35

And I am not sure a foot massage a great thing as would spread it, no?

winnybella · 11/10/2010 19:38

you should treat it, because otherwise it will spread. I found the freeze treatment works well. Didn't hurt DS much.

fanofpeamum · 11/10/2010 19:38

There is a homeopathic remedy called ferrum picrinicum which we tried a while ago. The verruca did disappear very quickly (after first getting bigger). Not sure whether it was coincidence or not...

mummyloveslucy · 11/10/2010 19:39

Oh o.k, I'll try that. It'll have to be at night though.

I'm not sure wether a massage would spread it or not? It is part of her bedtime routeen, so I didn't think of that.
It could explain the one on the other foot now. Blush

I'll try the ferrum picrinicum too.

Even if the freeze treatment hurts a tiny bit, she won't let me do it again. She a real wimp sensetive child. Wink

Duct tape, really heavy duty tape, replaced when it starts to come off or goes manky, which ever comes first. Will prob need changing daily if on foot. Keep it on and keep replacing. The lack of air will slowly shrivel it and it will 'die'. Worked for DS. Also works on warts.

Katz · 11/10/2010 19:45

We just covered DD2's with a plaster and tried to keep it as dry as possible. It just ran its course and died. From adding a plaster to death was probably less than 2 weeks

littleomar · 11/10/2010 19:50

tea tree oil worked on mine

mummyloveslucy · 11/10/2010 19:55

Well, I'e got lots of things to try now. Grin One of them is sure to work.

Should I mention it to her teacher as well? She dosn't go swimming at school but she does do P.E and dance etc.

The last time one of my DD's had a verruca the doctor said the best thing to do was to leave it and it would fall off on its own.

mummyloveslucy · 11/10/2010 20:09

Fall off?? If hers fell off it'd leave a huge whole in her foot. Confused

DiscoDaisy · 11/10/2010 20:14

My DD's fell off in small pieces! Grin

missmoopy · 11/10/2010 20:22

My dd's fell off in a big lump and she was left with a large hole for a few days which wasn't painful and seemed to vanish really quickly.

mummyloveslucy · 11/10/2010 20:25

Well I could always fill it with some play dough, I think she'd like that. Grin

Tape banana peel to it, change the peel every morning and night, but other than that keep it on all the time. Give it a week to two weeks and it will be gone.

missmoopy · 11/10/2010 20:26

I used Bazucca - less slimy than banana peel!

SparklyJules · 11/10/2010 20:29

I feel like printing this thread and showing to my mother who traumatised me (aged 9) by literally digging a verruca out of my foot with a pair of tweezers.

RobynLou · 11/10/2010 20:30

do treat it and I'd hold off on the foot massage till it's gone - they spread, and you'll end up with warts on your hands if you've got even the tiniest scratch.

GreenAndBlack · 11/10/2010 20:32

Duct tape worked for DH, MIL and aunt. And painless apparently!

mummyloveslucy · 11/10/2010 20:52

SparklyJules- That's awful, poor you!! Sad

I've just spoken to my mum and told her about this thread. She said "You should just ask me". Her theory is to rub some raw bacon on it, then burry the bakon in the ground and when the bacon rots, the veruka will fall off. Hmm I'm so thankful I've found Mumsnet. Wink

apply neat lemon oil to the verucca every day morning and night. it will be gone within a fortnight. Don't let it touch other, non-infected skin though as it can sting quite a bit.

I have tried it and it got rid of my small veruca in about 5 days.

TRL · 12/10/2010 21:58

mummyloveslucy, you have made me laugh so much ...

TRL · 12/10/2010 21:59

... about your mum's remedy, not yr daughter's verruca ...
