Fed up with wasting all this food! Any ideas?

26 month ds has been, for the past few weeks, very very fussy with food - in the past few days he has barely eaten anything.

Some foods he will not even touch - just pushes the plate away.

Some things he will try a bit of, but then after a few bites, he spits it all out.

I initially thought - sore throat - but there haven't been any other cold like symptoms.

Could it be this? Or teeth maybe?

He has been a bit tired and had a bit of an upset tummy, but both of those things have got better in the last few days.

Every meal I have made him in the past few weeks has gone in the bin, so I have taken to giving him snack bits.

All he seems to be eating is apple, cucumber and yoghurt.

Just really posting to see if anyone else has experienced this and what it turned out to be and/or some food ideas that may work.

TIA

teeth? just a bit off colour? about to come down with something?

Let him pick till you're sure it's nothing. And he might have a sore throat without other symptoms.

Thanks - I would have thought it was him being off colour if it hadn't lasted for so long, that's why I'm posting really.

I don't want to give him calpol unless really necessary, but have given him some and will see if he eats any better in an hours time.

He does suffer a bit with his tonsils, but again don't really like taking him to GP unless he's really ill.

He seems quite "chipper" Smile.

Sorry, for some reason I didn't read the 'few weeks' part. So unless the last few days he has felt unwell, he could be being fussy - offer him a plste of food and if he pushes it away that's it till next meal/snack time. And don't let him fill up on drinks or milk.

Don't react, don't make a fuss, don't praise for eating or scold or cajole for refusing; just take it that he's not hungry. don't trot out the same plate of food at the next mealtime - start with very small portions, it's a bugger throwing out food!

I think you can tell a lot by a child's behaviour - and ill children aren't usually 'chipper!'

Yeah I know! He's definitely not ill!

I'm just going to do tiny portions of stuff, I actually bought some baby rice earlier as at least that is smooth and filling, and I seem to remember that when his first teeth were coming in that he would only eat that or fruit puree - nothing that he needed to chew IYSWIM.

Thanks for the response - pretty sure he is partly being fussy and partly teeth.
