Aloe toothpaste.... for ulcers

Hello.
Am trying to help DD with persistent mouth ulcers. One suggestion has been Aloe toothpaste, so am going to try it, but I know it is also a good idea to avoid "SLS".

I know it sounds ignorant, but what IS "SLS"? For instance, in the Aloe toothpaste I have found the ingredients include Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate.

Is it still one to avoid?

Thanks. Smile

I'd be interested in any answers or tips on this too...?

DD (10) has constant mouth ulcers. I had the same problem throughout childhood and on until DC1, and put it down - thoroughly unscientifically, I know - to folic acid. With that in mind, DD now takes vitamins with a high vit B content instead of her normal children's ones, and I have to say, we do seem to have a significant improvement.

I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts on this?

Have bought Aloe Dent for DD. She says it is quite strong tasting, but will persist with it and see how we do.

Someone else recommended upping Vit B, so I will definitely be making sure she gets plenty, especially through the winter when her immune system is at its lowest and is more prone....

Hiya! Mouth ulcer sufferer here!

The "worst"/harshest SLS is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, you'll find that in most commercial toothpastes. (Plus shampoos, soaps, etc! It's a foaming agent.) Some toothpastes that claim to be SLS-free will have Sodium Lauryl Sarcosinate in them - it's less harsh, but apparently can still cause issues. I skip straight over these and go for a toothpaste which is free of anything abbreviated to SLS. :)

I've been SLS-free for four years, and it has made a huge difference. I ran out of SLS-free toothpaste recently and within a week had two mouth ulcers. Shock

Even if I do get an ulcer now (after biting my cheek, for example), it heals much faster.

Ah, that's really interesting, thanks :)

Will go on the hunt for SLS free toothpaste!
