I know this sounds like complete paranoia but dd2 just sicked up a load of milk (breast). Just worried as dd1 was never sick as a baby (though making up for it as a toddler) & both dh & dd had sickness bugs this week.

How do I know if this is normal & is she safe to sleep. Like I said sounds like I'm being pfb but not had to worry about sicky baby before.

has she got a temperature, is there any other signs of illness?
if not then I'd say it's just what babies do! At least at that stage it's nothing worse than curdled milk.

my DD was a sick-er upper...turned out she was sensitive to cow's milk protein and I cut dairy out of my diet.

Your DD could just be a sicky baby...you need LOTS of muslim cloths!

about the D&V bug...your breastmilk should be giving her protection from viruses etc.

It is only worrying if she starts throwing up every meal, and there is a danger of dehydration.

Just keep feeding her, even if she sicks up - this will keep her hydrated.

I would say she is safe to sleep...do you co-sleep? That might be a good idea if you are worried.

Gaahhh - muslin cloths....

Thanks, didnt expect a response this time of night. Am pissed off too. She is not settling between 10 & 2 every night at the moment. Just spent 2 hours trying to feed her & her having wind & now am having to start again now she has emptied her stomach. I could cry with tiredness right now.

check for temperature. any temp in a very young baby needs urgent medical attention.

if she continues to vomit and isn't keeping down more than half of her usual feeds, it would be wise to get her seen.

also look out of green/blood/brown liquid in vomit.

any unusual crying ditto.

if you're concerned, put her down nearby so you can keep an eye on her through the night.

look out FOR, not OF.

Bring her into your bed so you can check on her (and doze between feeds/sick episodes). Just make sure it is safe first - keep duvets away, stay well away from the edge, etc. (Maybe kick DP out if you have a spare bed at all?)

Your body temperature will change to accommodate her and help keep her regulated. Also let her feed as much as poss to keep her hydrated as Tante said.

Lie on a towel or 2 so that if she is sick again you don't have to change the whole bed.

Even if she's sick straight away breastmilk is so easily absorbed she'll have got something from it.
