Toddler poo

I have just changed DDs nappy and her poo was a sort of dark red wine colour, all the way through (a very close inspection took place). What could cause this?

A bit of a worry, but thinking because it was the whole poo that was coloured rather than patches or streaks of colour, then it might not be blood? Or could it be?

She had red jelly at lunch which she has never had before, but surely it would not pass through that quickly?

Other than that her diet has not really changed. She is on antibiotics at the mo for a cough.

Help!

Red food colouring could do it, as could beetroot. I don't know about anti-biotics.

I'd assume it's the red jelly - my 3 year has been known to visibly pass things she ate for lunch the same day. maybe it doesn't have as far to travel in tiny bodies? or they're just much healthier and have more efficient guts than us?!

Yes - it will will be the jelly. DD had some horrendous red poos the first time she had jelly!

Thanks guys, dd has since done a completely normal poo, so hopefully panic over. Good lord, the worry never ends does it?
