toddler with pimples on arms and legs - GP says just dry skin

Hi

My girl of 23 months has had little red pimples on her forearms and lower legs and cheeks for over a year. She had a little eczema at 6mths but that passed. Our GP thinks it's just dry skin so we apply diprobase morning and night (which she hates) and her skin is lovely and soft apart from the pimples. They have now spread to her upper arms and legs.

Her dad has what appear to be exactly the same type of pimples on his upper arms.

Could it be an allergy/food intolerance? Neither of us have allergies as far as we know. She has never accepted a bottle so she has been breastfed and never had formula. She has a little cow's milk in porridge but otherwise doesn't have much milk. She has what we assume is 'toddler tum'.

Keratosis pilaris? Are you/he/she fair-skinned? Is it like the follicle is blocked or comes up the stem of the hair? Read about in on here - I have it. Sorry, DD2 feeding, google it or will do link later.

sounds like keratosis pilaris to me too. I have it, as does DD1.

My ds has this. We use 'E45's junior hand and body wash'-about £3 for a 200ml bottle available in big Tescos.
Important to use soap free products.

Hi, I could have written your post. My 18m old DS has the same. Brought him to nurse who said it was eczema but it's not dry as such. Was prescribed acqueous cream for bath and diprobase for moisturising but made no difference. I found out about pilaris keratosis online and think I will go back to GP.

You could try omega 3 fish oils. My ds had something very similar, I was giving him fish oil supplements and it seemed to clear up.

Thanks, I will investigate KP further. We also wondered if it was a reaction to paracetamol.

The fact your child has had it for a year suggests it's totally different from what my twins had. They broke out in red, small pimples on arms, face and legs but not tummy. Took them to hospital and Dr said it was dry skin. My husband and i then got them. All disappeared after 2 days. Funny sort of dry skin. Don't trust the Drs, they like to treat us not in the medical know like we're plebs. Go and see a dermatologist. Good luck!
