Has your dc had one? I mean a phosphate one, not the micro-enema (we've been there, got that t-shirt Grin)

How many did he/she need before it cleared up and what was his/her bowel function like afterwards?

I can cope with gory detail now, getting a very strong stomach!

HI we are practically enema experts in our house as my little girl used to have weekly enema's and rectal washouts before she had surgery. Phosphate enema's normally work very quickly and are pretty effective. Are you going to give them yourself.

No! The childrens nurse came last week and gave her some of it, and lots of stuff came out but there's still a lump up there, so she's coming back tomorrow to give her more.

Surgery?

oh God sorry didn't mean to worry you...........i'm sure your little one will be fine my daughter has had quite a few operations but is certainly not the norm...

meltedmarsbars · 29/09/2010 14:46

Well, they've done it again and apart from some bypass, the lump has "made an appearance" and disappeared again!

Grrr. Now she is asleep on the sofa. This damned thing won't come out!

Are you knocking back the movicol as well as that may help dissolve the hard lump ??

meltedmarsbars · 01/10/2010 12:08

1 sachet a day, atm, and nothing, NOTHING is moving. Sad

Have emailed paediatrician to ask for more help.

you haven't said how old your little one is but one sachet isn't that much unless they are very young, i really sympathise as i have been there with my little girl and it is so frustrating !! do they know why the constipation is happening ??

She's 8 and has physical disabilities, so that's why she's getting problems.

Now have referral for another enema.

Is this something you do yourself? Should I ask for training?

My little girl is 8 too, and although i could give them myself i choose not too as she would get so distressed i felt it was better to be thee and hold her hand than actually give them myself.

meltedmarsbars · 14/10/2010 22:41

Pumba,

Had 3 in the end and the third one did move something but since then, nothing at all. Did 4 movicol a day in between the weekly enemas, now back to one a day.

Will wait and see what happens now....

Might not help but dd had bowel wash at the hospital pre surgery and inbetween the liquid going in the syringe they put in olive oil and left it over night..Whole bowel was clear by the morning. I don't know if thats something thats feesable at home..Also DD is on 2 movicol sachets a day and is 10 months..I'm always advised to up it to as many as 4 in a day if she is really blocked.

Hop it helps x

sugarbea · 15/10/2010 20:32

just realised its an old post...sorry...handy to know about olive oil though...:)

PUMBA · 15/10/2010 21:51

poop strike is the officail definition in our house !!!! Funnily enough we have tried olive oil in my little ones stoma before, although it was a nightmare as no stoma bag will stick to an oily mess !!!!!!

meltedmarsbars · 21/10/2010 12:46

Sugarbea - the oil thing is part of the phosphate enema - they squirt olive oil up first then the enema 10 mins later.
