perforated ear drum

My DD has perforated her ear drum twice since March. It would appear when she gets a cold her ear drum bursts. Is there anyone with experience of this? Obviously, we want to avoid this happening again.

I also suspect she has had a couple of cases of glue ear. Her speech is a bit behind her peers. I've raised this time and again with GP and HV, they just say she'll catch up.

I'm going to ask for an ENT appointment but was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and how it was treated before I go to see the GP.

DS's did this a lot, and DD's did it twice in a short period. We didn't do anything in particular with them (although did get DS a hearing test shortly before he turned four to check that out; his results were all fine) and they grew out of it I don't think DS's ear drums went once he was past 36 months and DD's have been fine since last winter. But I didn't have any concern about speech if you have then definitely push for an appointment to discuss that and see whether grommets would be the right call for her.

Thanks, hopefully she will grow out of it but I'll discuss possible next steps with my GP

Please insist your dd gets an appointment at your local audiology dept for a hearing test and an appointment with ENT.
Perforated eardrums can lead to permanent scaring of the drum and can also increase the potential for ear infections which in turn can lead to permanant hearing loss.

Both Gps & Hvs had no concerns about my dds hearing ("no problem there") or delayed speech/language ("late developer").
Dd was finally diagnosed with permanent hearing loss age 3 1/2.

Don't mean to scare you, just want to give you the push to stand up and insist that someone takes your concerns seriously.

Thanks, went to GP, after pushing my DD will get a hearing test when the perforation heals.
