Odd S&D 'episodes; - any advice?

For the last two years or so, dd who is now 6, has been having sickness & diarrhoea 'episodes'.

They come every few months or so, and always follow the same pattern, She will wake up early hours of the morning, usually between 4-5am, feeling sick. She will be sick, but not bring anything up, only liquid. At the same time as she is being sick she will have diarrhoea at the same time, literally coming out both ends at once.

This will happen a few times over a couple of hours, then she will be absolutely fine the rest of the day.

Happened again this morning, exactly the same pattern as always. Have been to doctors with her, who couldn't really say what caused it, but was not worried and said she will grow out of it.

I am not particularly worried either, but it is now bugging me, as to what causes it. I know it is not a bug as it doesn't last long.

Sorry for length, hope you're still with me!

Any ideas or experience as to what this might be?

I was going to suggest cyclical vomiting syndrome too. Ds1 suffers from it. He has had episodes every three months or so. Wakes up and is sick but just liquid and for the next five or six days is listless and lethargic waking up only to retch. No pain or diahorrea though. I think his is linked to infections eg. If there is a bug going around (flu, cold, d&v whatever) he won't get it but has a cvs episode instead.

thanks for your replies, sorry didnt check again last night. Sounds similar although not as severe as your ds1, Nicnock. Have you been told whether he will grow out of it?

He will either grow out of it or may develop into migraine attacks although it is also possible for cvs to continue into adulthood. He is getting good at recognizing the onset symptoms (in his case a headache) and we give him his medication at that point and it usually prevents an episode or lessens it. He is quite a sensitive chap and I don't think stress helps. CVS is often linked to migraine in the family and travel sickness (ds has always been v bad traveller).

Hope your dd doesn't suffer any severe attacks - ds gets upset if he misses lots of school and gets quite depressed which is v sad at his age (6).
