Help. 6 month old just massively vomited

Cut first tooth yesterday, dribbling loads, really grumpy. Bf loads during the night and has done since birth. Had mucousy poos for the last four days several times per day.

Half an hour ago, he was feeding when he sat up and projectile vomited LOADS of milk. There was so much it soaked me, him and the sofa. He has not done this before.

He is a little warm but temp is normal. Could it be the teething or a stomach bug. Really frightening the amount of milk he brought up.

I would wait and see what happens after teh next feed. If he's sick again maybe call the doc esp as he's had mucousy poos too.

Aitch · 20/09/2010 11:20

it is amazing, isn't it? it could be a wee tummy bug, or the teething, could be anything, but he'll be fine. he might bf like mad tonight, though... be prepared. Wink

Oh and remember it probably looks more than it is. Imagine how much a bottle of milk would look if you poured and splashed it all over the place. Ds puked a ridiculous amount at 2 days, I dont even know how it had fitted inside him!!

DinahRod · 20/09/2010 11:21

Don't worry Smile

Ds used to routinely projectile vomit, wore out the washing machine and did it so much had to replace the sofa!

If he gets hot give him calpol/bath to bring temp down and keep feeding him to keep him hydrated, even of he brings it back.

If it's teeth (don't know if he's weaned yet) but chewing on crusty bread etc can feel nice and try Ashton Parsons powders which help teething/stomach upsets

Huskyflodynamo · 20/09/2010 11:23

He is feeding now so I'll see what happens. Thanks Smile

there is no scientific proof for this, but whenever my dds cut a tooth they got very drooly and pukey and their poos got very sour and mucousy and gave them nappy rash. doctors would say that this is a coincidental tummy bug, but i always felt it was closely linked to teeth.

QS · 20/09/2010 11:32

When my babies had a tummy bug, I used to bring them to bed with me, sleeping on their changing mats, with a towel under them....
Saved me doing massive laundries....

Good luck.

(not that it IS a bug...)

Aitch · 20/09/2010 11:33

oh yes, i used to make the cot up with towel, then sheet, then towel then sheet, or with any waterproof disposable change mats i had. baby pukes adn you bathe them while dh whips off the top set of covers and leaves a fresh one underneath.

Huskyflodynamo · 20/09/2010 11:51

Aitch he has nappy rash too and his poos smells sour. He has just puked again but is smiley but doesn't want to be put down so I've put him in the sling.

If he brings up a third feed I'll make gp appt.

Poor ds, does sound like teething (nappies/rash/ pukiness/drooling) - you might be able to feel the teeth buds under his gums even if you can't see them.

A combo of Calpol, Ashton & Parsons and teething gel really helped mine. And as much as you can risk it, air to bottom, and nappy rash cream too.
