My 5 month old DD is teething badly, biting her hands and crying. Ive given her calpol every four hours, four times a day.
But how many days could/should i give it to her before contacting a Dr? As my mother says it doesnt matter but the instructions on the bottle says no more than two days?????
HELP!!!!

Ive also tried all the powders, gels ect you can find for teething

many thanks

Have you tried children's ibuprofen? Calpol doesn't do much for teething ime. We found bonjela and Ashton and Parsons best and then ibuprofen if it was really bad.

It could be something else, like a sore throat. Any temp? Off food?

A little temp but eating like a horse.

she had her third lot of jabs on last tuesday. could this also be effecting her?

Calprofen works better for teething imo.

Their little kidneys can't take it for too long, so if you can possibly avoid giving it constantly for more than 2-3 days then you should. You should probably also go to the docs to check it's not an ear infection or something else. They can also give you more guidance on the limit of how much you should give.

I sympathise, dd2 is the worlds worst teether and has been pumped full of drugs on occasion. She even passed out once when a tooth was breaking through. But I do try to only give it when she's howling, and nothing else works (ie distraction, cuddling, a walk etc). But if they're in pain, then you've got to give them something!

Some swear by Amber necklaces, might be worth a go.

Yes, could well be the jabs as well. Try calprofen and then the docs if still narky tomorrow I reckon.

Amber necklaces?????? never heard of that what is it?

gp visit for a check up is a good idea.

What it sounds like! Have a google, sounds barmy to me but you never know!

Teetha teething powder and baby neurofen here. Calpol never worked for teething with DS, neurofen seemed to be some kind of off-switch for the pain -you could almost see it working, esp at that age.

I asked a doctor about this once and the reason for the 'no more than 2/3 days before contacting a Doctor' is in case it's something else that's causing the symptoms that could be missed if dosed up on painkillers/harmful if left for too long IYSWIM.

I gave dd frozen bagels which she chewed and did seem to really help her.
