How do you go about getting a child's eye test?

I think I need to get my DD's (6) eyes tested. She was complaining today about things slightly further away from her like the TV being blurry (although she was reading things close up to her fine). Do you have to go through a GP to get referred for a free eye test or are there places where you can just turn up for an NHS test?

Just make an appointment at any opticians - they all do free tests for children

Just phone any opticioans up and aks fo an appointment.

not all opticans will see kids even thought the NHS covers the cost

if you can't find anywhere locally then the GP can refer you

IME placs like specsavers, Boots, D&A will make children's appointments.

DD has had regular sight tests since being 4 or 5y, with no problems and def no referral from a GP.

alas here D&A/Boots plus the local indies wouldn't see my 5 yo despite their websites saying otherwise which is totally rubbish imho

local HV couldn't tell me which opticians would see them just said see the GP

I ended up taking mine to the opticians I went to as a kid in my hometown

Tesco. Specsavers. Vision Express and others.

It's no trouble. They might even have appointments the day you contact them.
