They are a pain, my ds2 who is 3 won't have them either, if it's any help he had scarlet fever over the summer and did not take 1 jot of AB's but he recovered fully without, 2nd throat swab confirmed the all clear.

Once his Teddy gave him his medicine and he took it; Petis Flous Chocolate yoghurt has a very strong taste, good at hiding stuff.

Good luck,

Thanks carocaro, at min I'm being horrible & just tipping her back, it's awfull but I have to try, her temp went up to 105 the other day, she's gone from a baby who'd take med no probs to completly refusing, it's the amoxicillin she hates!

No advice re antibiotics, but we found paracetamol suppositories the route to use when DD was a medicine refusnik.

Amanda82 · 08/09/2010 10:04

where do we get the suppositories, are they only from the Dr Kreecher?..

Are you using a spoon or syringe? Syringe might be easier, and reduce the amount of taste she gets. Paeds nurse told me once stroking their throats triggers a swallowing reflex. If you can get it into the mouth.

RobynLou · 08/09/2010 10:13

my DD is 3 and still won't take any medicine. I once was on the phone to NHS direct and the nurse had to give me a stern talking to, either I forced it down her or a doctor would have to.
It's a 2 man job really, but I can just about pin her down and shove the syringe in her clamped/crying mouth on my own. It's horrible and we avoid calpol etc as much as possible because of it, but sometimes it has to be done Sad

CharlieBoo · 08/09/2010 10:14

I am having same prob, but I am hiding it all in yogurt and seems to be doing the trick.

Amanda82 · 08/09/2010 10:16

Hi thanks for all the replys I've tried the massaging the throat & I'm using syringe, but she tolds it in her mouth & spits it out, also more often then not inheat of tussel the med bounses back out of her mouth, oh well I'll keep going thanks for input.

Long shot ... but may be explaining why it is so important that she takes it and reminding her each time. Followed by small present if she takes it without spitting it out. Otherwise hiding in chocolate petit filous or M&S belgian chocolate sauce (very sweet). Good luck.

gordonpym · 08/09/2010 17:13

chocolate pudding powder.
Tip was given to me by a GP.

SpawnChorus · 08/09/2010 17:18

Oh you poor things. I've been there!

What worked for me was mixing it with a bit of fruit juice and freezing it in tiny yog pots with a stick.

Amanda82 · 09/09/2010 09:54

Thanks again for all comments, she's still fighting me & I'm still rugby tackling her to get med in, but at least the hysterics are lasting for far shorter time, her temp has come down now so hopefully on the mend!

nutella worked well for us when ds had swine flu and was so poorly he did not want to take anything really.
we took the adult caplets of paracetamol and opened them and put a quarter of the small balls in the nutella.

TonariNoTotoro · 09/09/2010 10:06

we just put it in chocolate nesquik Blush

seems to do the trick though Grin
