has anyone else dealt with the TB jab thing? its been at least a month since the jab and a big bump formed, it popped today in he bath and loads of green pus coming out of a big hole in my baby's arm...it is tender to touch and she screams when i wipe it...

is this normal? do i need to see the doctor? how do you care for it?

netdoctor says this about the BCG:

The BCG vaccine usually causes a hardened lesion that may ulcerate and occasionally discharge. It heals over several weeks or months leaving a small flat scar. You should keep the area dry to allow it to heal, but it is not necessary to protect it from water during washing or bathing. Avoid covering it with waterproof (airtight) dressings or tight clothing, unless for short periods such as during swimming. If the ulcer starts to ooze you can cover it with a dry dressing until a scab forms, but you should still allow the air to get to it. Airtight dressings may delay the healing of the ulcer and cause a larger scar. If you get a more severe reaction or the ulcer persists seek medical advice from your doctor

I can remember mine doing this as a schoolchild. It went on for months, pussing and scabbing over [retching emoticon!}
I'm pretty sure as seona says this is normal. If the area becomes hot, red and swollen I would pop to GP. Also dont hesitate to give calpol as it can all be so uncomfortable when they are little.

my DD's BCG scar was terrible, seemed never to heal just kept scabbing and then pus coming out and then scabbing again. I asked the doctor and he said it was normal, but my FIL insisted it was infected and I felt very guilty and went back to ask again only to be told that it is perfectly normal. I said, 'I'm worried she'll have a big scar' and he responded 'well maybe she will' Hmm

I have a visible scar from mine so probably she will too.
