14 week old - what do you think these spots are on her leg?

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 10:48

Rashy type spots have appeared on one leg below the knee in the last couple of hours. (am trying to put a pic on profile now)

She seems a bit grumbly and not quite as smiley as usual, though this may be down to teething.

Going out left field here, but has your DH been nuzzling/kissing her leg with a slightly beardy face? My DH regularly gives my DS a bit of a rash when they have been playing tickle fights.

Have you done the glass test?

Has she recently gotten over a virus? rashes can present at the end of some viruses.

Any fabric- like a new baby grow or blanket could have irritated it?

No pics on your profile yet. Call NHS direct if you are worried.

OhBuggerandArse · 07/09/2010 10:56

Go to the doctor. She's too small to wait and leave it.

belgo · 07/09/2010 10:58

Do they fade under pressure?

belgo · 07/09/2010 11:20

How is she Tobermory? Rashes that don't fade under pressure can be a symptom of meningitis and is a medical emergency.

It's hard to tell from the picture, of course it could just be a viral rash or an allergic reaction but the doctor should see her today.

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 11:20

They offered me 2.20, but trying for to get in to see him at end of morning surgery. Just waiting for a call back.

Tried the glass test , don't think they fade despite skin whitening.

If she is ill and has a rash that doesn't fade, then I do think you should take her to hospital.

I am not a doctor btw.

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 11:27

Going to the docs in 15mins.
Hopefully om over- reacting and it'll all bE fine.

OP posts:
belgo · 07/09/2010 11:29

yes hopefully I'm overreacting as well but with a 14 week old baby it is just so hard to tell what is wrong with her. Glad you are seeing a doctor quickly.

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 14:42

We saw the doc who didnt know what it was. Sent to hospital where we have been prodded by numerous docs, none of whom seem to know. Waiting for bloods.

Scared.

She is in the best place!

OhBuggerandArse · 07/09/2010 15:42

You are in the best place - good luck, and I hope it turns out to be one of those post-viral rashes and nothing serious at all.

thatsnotmymonkey · 07/09/2010 15:49

Oh god, I just came back on this thread. Good job you saw a Dr so quick, well done for acting fast.

Your wee one is in the best place and sounds like she is being well taken care of. Is anyone there with you? Have you got someone to call?

I am sure it is just a weird anonmoly thing and you will be back home soon enough.

Please post again and let us know how you are both doing.

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 16:09

Just had bloods, she's like her mother... doesn't like needles! Should get results in a couple of hours when we might know more.

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 16:13

thatsnotmymonkey on my own right now, DH was here but left to take DD1 to grandparents fir the night. It'll b a good few hours till he's back but I'm ok, for now. Had my weepy 10 mins just as doc was talking to me but strong and positive right now!

OP posts:
Flighttattendant · 07/09/2010 16:16

Good luck, try not to worry, you did exactly the right thing and she is where she needs to be if anything is wrong.

I have often heard of non blanching rashes being non-serious though. From what you say she is not too poorly in herself and that would encourage me no end x

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 16:22

They have mentioned the M word but as she is pretty well and perky it's not at the top of the list.

DS had this last year - the classic purple 'pin-prick' meningitis rash. Took him straight to A&E, who rushed him straight to Paeds.

They did bloods, urine, prodded and poked him and couldn't find the cause so they put it down to a viral infection.

Was very scarey at the time, but just to reassure you that it's not always serious (although obviously you have done exactly the right thing).

thatsnotmymonkey · 07/09/2010 17:46

Ah,. glad to hear you are able to have a little cuddle.

You must be very worried, I suppose your DH will be back shortly?

Eat a little if you can, I know hospital food is not the best, but eat a bit.

Are you going to stay overnight?

Fingers crossed for all the test results, hope its just like goldplated says and it is just a viral thing.

Good Luck x

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 07/09/2010 18:28

Hope she's ok Smile

anonymousbird · 07/09/2010 18:36

Any news Tobermory?? Fingers crossed for a swift diagnosis and sending home.

CharlieBoo · 07/09/2010 20:28

Hope all is ok, she is in the best place - have been there with my ds 5 years ago and they don't mess about with babies, hope all is well. x

Tobermory · 07/09/2010 21:34

We are home!
Bloods and everything came back clear. So everything pointing to a viral infection. Sounds a lot like your ds goldplated.
Extremely relieved to be back. DD2 is cooing and happy Smile
Thankyou everyone for your words, sitting in that hospital room just waiting, it really helped!

thatsnotmymonkey · 07/09/2010 21:48

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 07/09/2010 21:55

Glad she's ok and you're home. Smile

You must be shattered!
