Murmur in newborn baby

My sister had her second baby on Monday by ELCS.

She was hoping to get home yesterday or today, but her DD has not been 100%, she has been choking, very sleepy and been turning funny colours.

I am about 400 miles away so have not seen her personally, but in the photos she looks very very red.

The hospital are keeping them in so they can do blood tests but I haven't heard anything yet so I am quite worried. My mum says her battery is about to go so she can't phone me - I have tried to get in touch with my sister and BIL but no joy. I don't want to ring the hospital and bother them, and not sure if they'd tell me anything anyway.

Does anyone have any experience of what this might be? My mum said briefly in a text that they think she might have a murmur on her chest - I'm not sure if she means heart murmur or not?

I don't want to google Sad.

If it's any help my DS3 was very red for about a week or so after birth.

He does have a heart mumur, which was picked up when we were readmitted when he was only a few days old as he wasn't feeding and had jaundice.

The mumur he had was found to be an artery that takes the blood to his left lung wasn't working quickly enough, but luckily he seems to be outgrowing it. He's had several heart scans and he goes for the last one (fingers crossed) in September when he'll be eight months old.

Fingers crossed that you hear good news about your neice soon.

Could be a heart murmur, but that does not have to be serious, could be fluid on the lungs from the delivery although I think this is unlikely with an ECS.

When I was in hospital with my dd when she was 10 weeks old, my sister rang the hospital to get news, they happily spoke to her, and went and got me so I could talk to her myslef, I think they are very accomadting where children are concerned. I would ring them. Good Luck

PS If it helps my dd had two types of heart murmur, and the doctors really worried for a while, sent her by ambulance to paediactric heart specialists, but she was fine in the end, and actually grew out of the pulminary stenosis, and is just left with an innocent heart murmur completely assymptomatic. I have my fingers crossed for you all.

Thank you for your support.

I spoke to my mum earlier and apparently they might have been getting out tonight, but she has an appointment for the cardiology unit or something.

She said my sister is very very upset, as apart from this, she apparently might have a hearing problem too. Though I think this is probably just the mucous build up, as my ds was the same in one ear for a few days after the birth.

I think she's just hit day 3 and probably the baby blues too - bless her.

How is the baby doing today and your sister? If they discharging her they must consider it not too serious, most likely an innocent murmur, still scary though.

Thanks for posting SparkleRainbow Smile

She went home last night, so I think you must be right.

I have only had a quick text from her, to say that they had a good night, so hopefully the sleep has helped a bit too.

If I hear anything else, I'll post again - glad to hear your DD is ok now Smile.
