I have started another thread re my baby who has a strange thing of her limbs going black and swelling and she is waiting to be seen at newcastle hospital as they think she has some kind of blood vessel disorder.

She has loads of blood done and has the bloods have always shown high calcium levels, however they are now showing high magnesium levels and also low protein c levels. I know the protein c is associated with blood clotting but dont know what the other ones mean.

Was just wondering if anyone had experience of any of these blood values? She is going to the hospital tomorrow for the bloods to be repeated, they are doing them every couple of weeks to keep an eye on the levels. I am just worried sick

No help but I'm sorry to read that the drs still don't seem to have much idea. Big Hugs x

Thanks cargirl x They are pretty convinced about the blood vessle disorder thing and are going to start treatment but all these blood values do not tie in with that apparently :(

Sad is there anysort of support group for the condition she already has been diagnosed with?

I am not sure as they havent given me the name yet but know it is very rare, the professor she is seeing has only seen it twice in his career

no help but didnt want to not reply either. Been reading your threads, I hope they get it sorted too. I know about protein S but dont think they are that simular tbh but both are blot clotting disorders.

mummytopebs · 24/08/2010 22:06

What do you know about protein s as that was borderline but protein c was low?

ok both me and sister and nan have protein S deficity. It does not effect us at all unless pregnant or immobile for long periods of time. When that happens we have to inject blood thinners daily. I have had 2 blood clots when pregnant but very small and sister had 4 prem babies (not known if related) TBH it doesnt really effect me at all most days.

mummytopebs · 24/08/2010 22:15

It must be similar then as consultant has wrote about me having 2 miscarriages and a small blood clot in my leg when pregnant when he has refferred her on to newcastle. Do you know how low your protein s is? DD protein c was 49 and it should be between 70-150

mine when last tested was 24, sisters was 37 (I think) we were pregnant at same time, she was tested before me as she had loads of difficulties, it was only my second. Both my girls were tiny at fullterm 5lb and 5lb 3oz.
Hope you get some answers. We have an appointment for DD2 tomorrow for blood results too
