Dd - 7 months old has been sick twice this morning
, proper big pukes, ds had the same thing last Thursday. With him I just gave him clear fluids for 24 hours and then very plain food for 24 hours. Do I do the same for dd? I presume I carry on bfing her as usual. Do I give her extra fluids or just breast milk?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'd keep BF (might increase the frequency) and when she hasn't puked for a few hours would give her some dry toast. If that stays down, add in some more interesting food.

HeadFairy · 23/08/2010 12:10

Thanks for that, I presume I shouldn't give her anything (even bm) while she's still being sick a lot. she's just been sick three times in an hour, its just bile comng up now.

Hm, not sure. Maybe I would try to give sips of water just because I'd be bothered about dehydration. Poor little thing, I hope she's better soon.

HeadFairy · 23/08/2010 12:34

poor thing, I put her in her bouncy chair so I could get ds something to eat (the first thing he's eaten since Thursday - yay!) and she fell fast asleep. She's in her cot now, I'll try bfing her when she wakes up I think. If that comes back up then I'll leave her for a bit and try some water. Luckily it's not too warm today, so she won't get dehydrated too quickly.

diorlite?

HeadFairy · 23/08/2010 13:39

would she need something like that already?

ok I've just tried to bf her and wasn't that keen, a few sucks and she started heaving and brought up some bile. How long should I leave it before I start to get worried?

id stick to just clear liquids. trouble is the curdling of milk.

i say diorlite because dd wasnt ill very long at all but ended up very dehydrated and with urine infection.. was in hosp on iv.

and i was topping her up already with water.

She's quite little and I think the advice I was once given was that if my DD brought up the whole of 3 feeds in a row I should speak to my GP. So maybe a call to NHS direct? I find them very responsive when it is anything to do with a baby under a year old.

HeadFairy · 23/08/2010 18:07

I spoke to NHS direct and of course they told me to go to A&E (don't they always). Luckily our local hospital is only 5 mins away, and they are really quick when dealing with babies, so we were in and out in about 2 hours, and most of that was taken up with me giving dd 5mls of dioralyte every 5 mins. She's kept all that down, and a bit of breastmilk, so hopefully she's on the mend. Thanks for your help x
