I noticed it when he looked sideways, have tried to have a feel, it feels quite deep and pretty big - maybe 20p size but not a definite round ball..... stomach in total knots, surely it is too big to just be a swollen gland (he has had a cold recently) :(

DS2 (3) had one the size of a golf ball. It was indeed a swollen gland and went down in a few weeks. Go to GP to put your mind at ease.

I have also been where you are - it was a swollen gland as well (it was about the size of a golf club) but go to the Dr to put your mind at rest....Hope things are ok

Get to the A and E if you are that worried. If not get on the phone to the Gp in the morning.

I will call first thing tomorrow morning, thanks for your message - good to hear. I was shocked by the size of it...

I'm sure it will be a swollen gland - but as everyone has said go to see your GP tomorrow to reassure yourself.

My DS (6) has a big gland in his neck..got referred to hosp but they weren't worried!

missmoopy · 16/08/2010 22:51

My dd (now 5) had three large pea size lumps in neck when she was 3. I pretty much had nervous breakdown but all bloods normal and they are still there now, only smaller. Apparently some children are 'glandy'! Mention it to GP but try not to panic (which is a stupid thing to say as you will anyway, but ykwim)

scurryfunge · 16/08/2010 22:55

pixierara, do you really mean golf club? [smle]

OP,don't worry....really quite common. Usually glandular....get it checked out slow time with GP.

corns1lk · 16/08/2010 22:57

My ds used to get this when he was unwell. I was very scared at the time but GP said it was just his glands.

aristocat · 16/08/2010 23:11

my DS has this too, please dont worry it is very common.

Hi, thanks all for your responses.
He has prescribed an anti-biotic and we will monitor it over the next week or 2.

Doesn't help that I watched My Sister's Keeper the night before last!!!
