My son turned 3 in july, for a month now for 1 to 3 days a week he is having what we are calling episodes.

basically, he is moody, lethargic, hot but claims he is cold and begs for jumpers and blankets, sleeps alot lot more than usual (normal is 7.30-7.30 at night and 2hr nap) during the episodes he can sleep 6hrs in the day and be in bed by 5-6 and sleep through until disturbed by dds antics.

the first time, dd had the same symptoms and the on call doctor diagnosed croup, but they were coughing. DD is 100% fine, ds is worrying.

when he is well, he is bright, very active and extremely healthy, he has a fantastic diet and i have no concerns, he is literally changing over night suddenly once a week.

a visit to the docs asked for a urine sample, should be fun, he isnt potty trained. and gave me some rubbish that his immune system is developing and that 'might be it'

im absolutely terrified.

Don't know what to suggest, but I'd be taking him back to the doctor next time he's poorly, I think. Hope he gets better soon.

That amount of sleep sounds odd. I would go back to the GP

Hi, it could be something as simple as a water infection (UTI) which Im guessing the doctor is thinking it could be. They really knock children for six, are hard to pick up on but usually a course of antibiotics sorts the problem. simple trick for getting wee sample, put loads of cotton wool balls inside nappy, give him loads to drink then once he has had a wee squeeze them into the pot they have given you. If the urine test comes back clear and you are still not happy go with your instinct and ask for further tests to rule thing out, a blood test could be useful.

thanks for the help, the tip for the urine sample is brilliant, thanks!
its just so scary when it happens, my doctors arent known for being helpful, i had to wait 9days for that appointment, they are extremely reluctant to give out what they class as emergency appointments, ie same day/next day, the response i get is go to a and e.
