MMR after effects. How long?

I have my dd MMR booked for 10 days prior to our holiday. I am wondering if she will be over all of the side effects by then. Can anyone share any experiences of how long they lasted and when they kicked in. One of my friends baby's was poorly a week after but perhaps that's a coincidence.

You can get mumps symptoms tbree weeks later. If there is a very bad reaction .... life i suppose.

My dd (second child of three) was the only onw to have any reaction. She was ill with a mild version of all three illnesses, starting about 10 days after jab and lasting for about 6 weeks......sorry. As Appletrees says that's life, do the jab, go on holiday and have a great time (just take some calpol with you)

Mine had what looked like a mild dose of measles that started 10 days after and lasted for about a week. Wasn't too bad but DD had temp for a couple of days, lost appetite and was generally a bit grumpy. According to the nhs leaflet we were given only 1 in 10 get this and only 1 in 100 get the mumps symptoms (which kick in at about 3 weeks if they are going to happen). So you may be ok, fingers crossed. My friend's DD has no reaction whatsoever.

DD has just had MMR plus the pre-school booster (DTP and something else, 4 in 1). So far she has not had any side effects at all. Paediatrician told me that given that she had no side effects at time of the first MMR vaccination he did not expect any side effects now either. But if she was to have some, that we should expect some fever during the first week, or potentially mild version of mumps (2-3 weeks after vaccination I think) and/or mild version of measles (3-4 weeks after vaccination). We are going on holiday abroad next week and will take thermometer and Calpol and Calprofen just in case.

I would try not to worry, most importantly your dd will be as good protected as possible as a result of having the vaccination. Our paediatrician also always advises on giving a dose of Calpol 30 minutes before the vaccination, to reduce soreness, etc.

Thanks for all your contributions. Calpol before sounds like a great idea. I think I will just go for it but if she gets poorly then I will need to justify my decision to dh. ERGH!

DD had a reaction from about 3 days after the jab for about 3 weeks in total. She had temp, rash, grumpiness and loss of appetite.

May be worth postponing it till after the holiday to make sure it's not spoilt?
