I swear I clean them twice a day - ok, sometimes it's a battle but I've tried from the minute her teeth arrived. She drinks only water and breast milk, doesn't eat jar baby foods, has only had the odd bit of baked bean/alphabetti spaghetti.

So depressed that her teeth might be stained.
To top it off she fell over and bashed them yesterday so won't let me near her and I'm only on a waiting list for the local dentist.

She's only got 4 teeth and I feel such a failure already. Plus this is the sort of thing other mothers round here judge you on. I've tried my hardest.

Has she got decalcified teeth. Was she on anti-biotics?

My 7 year old has slightly yellowed front teeth and the back teeth (all her second teeth) were decalcified and so she has four fillings already and lots of fischure seals.

BUT........ it was not my fault and I'm sure your daughter's teeth colour is not your fault. There must be a reason. Maybe her second teeth won't be yellow. Try not to worry.

Look after her teeth and as long as they're healthy and she had a good strong set of teeth with healthy gums she can always get a couple of veneers when she's older if that's what she wants. Try not to worry too much.

She was on anti-biotics at the very beginning for about 12 weeks because of a urinary tract infection. I wonder if that may have hindered things.

I also feel so frustrated that I can't even get to see a dentist. When she bashed her teeth yesterday, I phoned the dentist and they wouldn't even see us as an emergency/temporary case. I've got so many questions and queries, and who knows, her front teeth may even fall out! I don't know if they are loose or if they are fine. I can't get near her to even look either.

Grrr - sorry having a rant and feeling sorry for my daughter and myself.

Shock that your dentist won't see a really small child!

If I were you I'd ring NHS direct and find out about emergency dental services in your area. Alternatively, if you ring your dentist when they aren't there, there may be an answer phone message with an out-of-hours/emergency number to call

I know tetracyclines can cause yellowing of the teeth but they're not meant to be given to young children or pregnant women

The antibiotics have caused it, almost certainly I'd say - are they mottled, as in, darker and lighter spots? Can you remember which antibiotics she had?

Don't worry. You are doing all the right things so that her teeth don't get any cavities and that's the most important thing - tooth whitening procedures are available in such cases for young children so maybe if her big teeth are also a problem - and they might not be, she could have them whitened. x

Thanks everyone. I'm glad there are teeth whitening procedures available should they get so bad.

The antib was Trimethoprim.

Trimethoprim won't have affected your childs teeth..
I've just taken my DS to have his teeth checked. He was on a lot of antibiotics including trimethoprim, had reflux and was on soy milk so lots of negs for teeth. His are very patchy, white tips and grey neared the routs. Dentist said his teeth are fine.
Infant teeth begin to form from 14 weeks of pregnancy.. My dentist reacons most of the discolouration happened before he was born but it is benign..
