TMI thread about DD's urine, can anyone help me not worry while I wait for the doctor to call please?

DD has discharge at the end of when she does a wee, sort of a yellow discharge which doesnt seem to be bothering her although she is going to the toilet more often. It seems to come out at the end, and is on the tissue when wipe her.

DD is nearly four and has a condition which affects her kidneys and has had surgery in that area so I am very much hoping this has nothing to do with it but have called the GP to be on the safe side.

Anyway of course Iam now worrying that it is something to do with her kidneys and also that the GP won't know enough about her condition to help me.

Any ideas of less scary causes? is it normal? She is also constipated often so is on movicol for that as well as steroids for her condition.TIA

If she is weeing more often, maybe urine infection?

used2bthin · 04/08/2010 17:46

hiya not sure as doesnt seem to hurt her though and nothing extreme iyswim, just a bit more often for her as she usually doesnt go often but she often gets that with the constipation. Bet the dr will want a urine sample though.

Does she seem itchy? Just wondering if she may have got thrush?

used2bthin · 04/08/2010 18:08

would that cause discharge actually in her wee though? been googling and can't find anything about discharge in wee only abnormal discahrge iyswim

Well, I was just thinking that maybe the discharge is not actually in her wee, its in the vagina but appearing on the tissue when you wipe. I mean when we have periods, its on the tissue when wiping but not actually from bladder iyswim?

Next time she needs a wee, get her to wee in a pot and see if its cloudy or whatever

Hope Dr rings back as you must be worried

she also has high blood pressure and had a borderline ecg result after a small collapse a while back. Think I am letting my imagination run wild a bit but may give her consultant a call tomorrow to be on the safe side. Any less scary ideas still welcome though!

Quick update to see if anyone has any other thoughts because the GP has just called back to say she has traces of blood and rotein in her sample but, given that she seems well, to wait for the hospital to do the proper lab test (about a week?)

I am worried so have called her specialist but she isnt there till tomorrow and the secretary just said she will call tomorrow but not to worry the GPwill know what they are doing. Which, in the case of rare conditions is just not always the case!

Can you call her kidney specialist (Urologist? Nephrologist? Whatever?) and ask? My dd2 has a hip condition and they always say to ring anytime if we are worried and I have done so twice and the consultant was quite happy to give me 5 minutes on the phone to reassure me.

traces of blood and protein in urine in an adult almost always is a uti or kidney infection. I have an adult kidney problem and I can easily have an infection with no temperature or other symptoms. If I were you I would be pushing the GP for a broad-spectrum antibiotic to cover most bugs, and pressing them to call the consultant your dd is under if you can't do it yourself.

UTIs in kids (and some adults! me!) can cause kidney scarring and problems. As your dd is not horibly unwell, it is probably mild, but I would be asking for more advice!!

Hope she feels better soon, and stop panicking!!! It doesn't help !

Urrgh just reread your post you have already done what I said

used2bthin · 05/08/2010 13:04

Thank you yes have called although bet they take ages to get back to me as the consultant is off today. I just googled it (I know, Iknow!) and found that high blood pressure can cause that kind of problem so now panicking that this and her collapse were caused by that and that it is causing her long term damage. Argh wish the consultant was in she is always so reassuring. Last time DD had the same thing they put her on anti biotics then the hospital lab results came back showing no infection so can see why the GP is reluctant but wish the hospital would get a move on.

Sorry to hear that your DS is also unwell atm, these children are a worry.

Quick update to say that her consultant got someone to ring me in the end and I need to get a repeat urine test when the discharge stops (which it seems to have done, will give it another couple of days-no idea what it was?) and if her wee sill has blood and protein they will organise a kidney scan. Bit worried really as am guessing its kidney damage they would scan for but will have to wait and see.
