not sure if im posting this in the right place but my 13 year old dd has been lying aroud n bed for the past two days with very bad period pain. shes not throwing up or anything but she says the pain is as bad as'labour' (not that shes ever experienced that type of pain lol) shes taken lots of paracetemol and has been lying down a lot and had fruit which i hear helps?

is there anything that can take the edge off the pain every month? should i take her to the doctors or is she just being a usual over dramatic teenage girl?

sorry if message is a bit long!

No offence meant op- meant if she was feeling better a walk might do some good.

In Australia there is a very popular period pain med which is available over the counter - it is called Naprogesic. The active ingredient is Naproxen Sodium. It is so much more effective than panadol or nurofen.

I think Naproxen Sodium is now available over the counter in the UK, though that's only recent I think - a few years ago it was available only on prescription (yawn). I don't know what name the drug is marketed under though. Ask your pharmacist.

Just to add - I think the equivalent may be Feminax.

Another recommendation for ibuprofen from me.

I had hideous period pain which regularly incapacitated me and made me faint. That said, my labour (before the epidural ) was worse than even I could have imagined in all my wildest dreams. I'd have quite happily have been put down to stop the pain.....but that's a whole other story!

Take Anadin ibuprofen - the liquid capsule ones, at the first twinge (they seem to work twice as fast as any other brand!)

My periods have just returned after having DD and are a bit better but I resorted to a left over diclofenac last month when I was woken by the awful pains. So I can't even vouch for having a baby making them better!

Yeah, I always take the liquid filled capsules, either the pretty green anadin ones or the pretty red nurofen ones :-)
