Thursday morning her nose was all gunky, like yellowy/orangy snot.

We thought cold as we had both been ill (DH and I) with sore throats/ears/heads.

We booked an appointment with GP Friday AM, but next morning it seemed clear so we cancelled, but by evening she was all gunky again.

DH went to the chemist who gave him some oilatum cream for the edges of he nose and tld us t go t GP Mnday.

Bt this morning her nose was full of orange bloody gunk and its really sore.
I've just wiped her nose and it literally started drinpping drops of blood

What the hell is it?

Her brother has the same but to a lesser degree,
they both have spots around their noses and face too!

Sounds like impetigo. The bacteria for it lives in the nasal passage. Does it dry with an orange crust and then start weeping?

TotorosOcarina · 31/07/2010 19:16

Yes,

oh dear,

whats the case of it?

That makes sense as DSis aways taking her bloody dummy for a sly suck so they will e passed it abo that wa.

Gah.

Thankyou

It is caused by a bacteria that lives in the mucus membranes which people can carry all the time but at times flares up. It is highly contagious and can be very painful and make them feel overall really unwell. Sometimes with a fever. It needs to be treated immediately normally with an AB cream but in young infants with an oral dose.

Also to note if you and your DH may have to use the cream in your noses to prevent re-infection.

DD got very ill with this and ended up hospitalised (don't mean this to panic you just they took it extremely seriously as she was so young).

It sounds obvious but make sure you don't share towels either as it can be passed that way.

Argh, my mum works at the doctors and said the out of hours Doctor will only prescribe something and probably wont get here for hours and theres no chemists open now to get the treatment from!

My mum can't take us to a walk in place as shes had a drink at home, and the onle local to us shut at 7pm.

The out of hours service should have antibiotics, you don't usually just get a prescription.

If you do need to fill a prescription your out of hours GP service will know which pharmacy is open out of hours tonight (probably at a supermarket), there will also be a pharmacy at your local hospital.
