Very small 2 Year old!

My DS is 2 years and 3 months old and has always been small. When he was born he weighed 5lbs 8oz so was never on the percentile chart. Since then he has been following his line (albeit off the percentile chart) and now weighs 20lbs 7oz.

He looks much smaller then his friends who are the same age and eats small portions. He is otherwise very funny, active and does all of the things a normal 2 year old would. I am very worried about his size and am thinking about taking him the GP. Actually I dont know what I shoud do but its starting to keep me awake at night worrying about it. My husband is 6ft tall and I am petite so not sure if he's just taken after me or maybe its medical?

Any advise would be much appreciated!

My DD was also premature, like Pixie's, born at 27+4. She's tiny for her corrected age (she is 15 months old, but should be 12 months old), wearing 3-6 month clothes, and weighing 17lb 0oz. She doesn't eat huge portions but is active and meeting her milestones.

We did see a paediatrician due to her low weight, but because she is perfectly in proportion (0.4th centile for corrected age for height, weight and head circ), he isn't at all worried and simply told me not to weigh her for 6 months and I wouldn't be worrying about her weight!

So, yes, go to the GP if you are worried, and ask for referral, but don't necessarily expect them to do much!

Both my older daughters were exactly 10kg (22lbs) at exactly 2, so similar to your DS. They've both grown to be perfectly normal in height and weight. I'm not sure that size at this age is much indicator of their future size- his behaviour and milestones are more of an indicator that he is eating enough imo.

Thank you all for your help and advise, it has made me feel better although I think I will make an appt with the GP for advice too.
