Wheat intollerance

My 10 year old son has been suffering with regular stomach pains and headaches. After a visit to our GP today we are going to try to reduce the amount of wheat in his diet for a week to see if there is any improvement in his symptoms... any advice on wheat free, family friendly recipes would be appreciated !

Most supermarkets have a good range of free from food - so you can still have pasta etc. Its quite costly so I tend to do a small pan for DH and normal pasta for the rest of us.

You can't go wrong with meat and two veg type dinners for a wheat allergy but do watch for processed stuff (ie ready made roasties are a no-no as they have a wheat coating)

The BBC website has some good recipes with the option to select wheat free, and even if you don't necessarily shop there the ocado website lists all the food label info so you can quickly identify if its ok or not and then use that info for wherever you do shop.

I'm afraid bread, biscuits and cakes are all off the menu for your DS but you can buy wheat free flour if you're handy at baking (I've had no success with this) but he can still have sweets and chocolate so not all bad

Thanks for that, will look at Ocado website...he'll be pleased about the chocolate being ok !

U have a sensible dr! It took us 10 years to get there.
U can buy some wheat substitutes, but we here have evolved into no wheat as it's quite easy to work around at home that is.

Most of processed foods are out and far better to rely on fresh real foods although it means more home cooking.
However, my ds improvement was so mind blowing that it's worth all the effort.

Bunniesmum if it helps then list the kind of thing that he does like to eat and we can try and make suggestions for alternatives.

DS is autistic so we do wheat and dairy free
