Hi everyone.

If you live in Essex ior planning a trip to one of its many attractions this summer here's some stuff you need know about in case any of your offspring injure themsleves or get ill.

25% people using the A&E at Colchester Hospital could have been treated more quickly elsewhere in a Walk in Centre(Colchester) or Minor Injuries Unit (Harwich and Clacton. You don't need an appointment and you can usually get seen much quicker than at A&E. Anything life threatening or emergency, A&E's still the place to go though.

NHS North East Essex are running a campaign to let everyone know what can be treated where and with all the info about opening times so take a look at their website. www.choosetherightroute.co.uk

Easy really

A&E if leg hanging off (accident & emergency)

MIU if ankle sprained or ? broken (minor not emergency)

Walk in centre Cough/colds/minor rashes etc
(mini doctor type service)

Confusion comes when A&E has a MIU attached to it and MIUs are combined with WICs

If you'r ever confused NHS Direct have a directory with opening times, numbers etc for all areas of the country for A&E, MIUs and WICs.
