odd toes which split open.

My ds 5.11 has got 2 toes on his left foot which are not correctly formed. The 1 next to his big toe is turned towards it on the top and curls towards the middle one which is bent almost in 2 and turns at the end and tucks under the other curled toe. The middle one is getting very cut on top and recently it keeps spitting open underneath in the crease if the toe ets straightened when walking etc. This is very painful for ds. Six weeks ago I saw gp who has referred us to the podiatrist but we have not had an appointment through yet and at the time this skin splitting was not occuring.

I thouht that the podiatrist would give ds gel splint to separate the toes but now I'm concerned that this won't be possible as his toe splits when its straightend.

Has anyone any experience of this personally or with dc's and what may happen, and do you think it would be ok for me to ring the podietry department nd ask about appointment and try to get it asap.

I havn't got a child with this problem, but I have this problem myself haha. My little toe on left foot sort of faces the left. I can turn my toe 45 degrees so the toenail faces the ground. My mam tried to tape it straight when I was a baby, which did nothing. With it facing the wrong way, it sticks out slightly which can be uncomfortable when wearing some shoes as it rubs. I have been to the hosp. and they said, if it's bothering me, they can cut it off, but straightening it wouldn't be an option.
To be honest, I went through all of school without being bullied, and tbh, I call it my little deformity and show it off to all who will look. I think if it is painful for him, then maybe get a referral from your GP to see someone, but if it's not bothering him, maybe you should just leave it alone.

They were very helpful and have made an appointment for ds tomorrow morning at surgery.

Ok saw gp today whos going to chase up podiatry apt. I thought all was going well until he looked at them (diff gp than last time) and was quite shocked at them and asked if mine were the same. (I have one thats bent but its not as bad and doesn't bother me)He seemed quite shocked that they could be in that position.
