hi

has anyone had any experience of this colic remedy please?
it's not available here, it's from France.

friend of my dh's recommended and acquired this medicine for us on hearing of ds's colic. ds is 7 weeks. apparently it relaxes the gut and stops spasms.

my dh would like to try it, but i'm a bit reluctant. if my ds has a reaction to it, i don't fancy going to A and E and telling them i've been giving him medicine you don't even get in this country.

is anybody familiar with it and can give me more info? does it work? (or is it more like infacol and a fruitless endeavour).

Hi,

I can't help with the actual medicine as never heard of it and I share your concerns. However, my dd, now 14 months had TERRIBLE colic and I remember it well! I remember being desperate enough to try anything. Why don't you speak to your GP or even take the medicine into Boots and ask the pharmacist to tell you
whats in it, if there is any english on it?

I found gripe water to be the only thing that worked but I had to give it after each and every feed, not once the colic started in the evening, as then it was a waste of time and didn't work. My dd also preferred the Boots own one as opposed to Woodwards.

Good luck and it does come to an end.

Ive had a quick google and only seen this given to adults for spasmodic pain. In UK buscopan is also an antispasmodic but not ever for colic in infants. Having looked recently into colic meds none list any antispasmodic effect.
They are. Gripe water (dill oil) ?natural remedy.
infacol - an anti foaming agent (reduces bubbles in the intestines)
Colief - breaks down lactase from milk and makes it more digestable.
None of these have a direct antispasmodic effect.

I think it would be extremely unadvisable and dangerous,
a) to give meds not prescribed by a doctor
b) to give meds with a very powerful effect which is not generally given in this country to babies.
