Can I register my son with two GPs?

My son's father and I live two hour's drive apart, he spends week days with me and weekends with his Dad. Is there any way of registering him with two GPs? He hasn't been at all well lately and having to drive him to and fro to get to his registered doctor is frustrating, especially when he needs to go urgently. I've tried looking on the net but can't find the answer anywhere - does anyone have more information please?

Many thanks,

Katie

i doubt it, but is pose you might be able to register at his dad's gp as a temporary resident?

can you get a copy of his notes if necessary?
does he have special medical needs?

You can indeed have one as a temporary patient - but keep your main surgery (ie yours) as his permanent base. I registered MiL at ours as a temporary patient, you just have to fill in a form whenever you need to go in I think, but it's a very short form!

You can't register with two, as medical records need to be held at one surgery, but you can register DS as a TR (temporary resident) each time he needs to be seen.

However if he's only at his dad's at the weekends GP surgeries don't tend to be open anyway. If you called the Out of Hours service you would just give the details of his registered GP, it doesn't have to be a local one.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. It seems that being a temporary resident is the way forward.

Thank you!
