5yo with asymetric rib cage?

I have noticed over last few months that DS rib cage is markedly deeper on the left side than the right. If you look down at the front of his chest from above, the left side sticks out a good 3/4 inch further than the right side. Not sure why I didnt notice it before, probably more obvious now he has grown out of his baby fat and has gone all lithe and muscly!

He is healthy (apart from chicken pox at the moment) and very active, running around, playing footie, riding bike etc.
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if its anything I should maybe speak to the GP about?

My brother has a dent in one rib cage caused by one rib being the wrong way around. Has never caused him problems in life. Could this be the explanation for your DS?

I dont think so as there are 2 or 3 ribs involved, its like a bulge in his ribcage on the left side under his pectoral muscle - its the whole chest wall, it sticks out further on the left side than the right?

I noticed something a bit like this in my DD when she was young (she's now 18)and she was diagnosed with Poland's Syndrome, which is basically where the chest wall muscle is missing. What I mean is, is it possible that the left side is actually the normal one, because there's no muscle on the right side? Didn't have any effect on my daughter's strength though, so I think the only way to tell is to see the GP and ask for a referral to a paediatrician.

I'd go to the GP; it might be nothing but I think you'd constantly be looking at him and wondering, better just to play it safe.
