My whole family has got a stinking cold, including 7 week old ds. My husband reckons he should have calpol which states on the box 2 months plus and over 4kg. His argument is ds was 2weeks late so effectively 9 weeks old, he's otherwise in great health plus he's over 5kg. I just don't know though! Has anyone got experience of this. I don't like to go against recommendations!

Does he need Calpol?
As in, does he have symptoms for which Calpol would be the appropriate treatment - temperature for example?
TBH I wouldn't give a baby so young any OTC medication, if I felt they were ill enough to warrant being medicated they would be at the GP.

I wouldn't do it without the guidance of a GP. DD was given Calpol in hospital at a day old as she had a very bruised head due to ventouse / forceps delivery and screamed every time anybody attempted to touch her head to help her to latch on. The dose was calculated by the Paediatrician based on her weight and was tiny. So it can be given under 8 weeks, but only under medical supervision.

I would as a one off if baby has a temperature, but would ask GP first.

Oh thinking about it and just inspecting him a bit closer:

-he is fussy and biting things (not sucking but clamping repeatedly mainly)
-he is drooling and runny nosed (he has never drooled)
-he is bloody grumpy and has become a poorer sleeper this week
-he has a red/ purple patch on his gum were he had a white mark
-he looks a little flushed

Surely the poor sod can't be teething yet?!

Oh he is rather warm, but not a high temp. Removing an extra layer seems to have done the trick.

god, hope he's not teething!
if he isn't running a temp, i'd be inclined to leave the calpol.
sympathies - a child in discomfort is a sorry sight.
