how long do we wait before worrying about an almost 3 year old who is being sick roughly every half hour, sleeping in between being sick (she's throwing up bile now as there's nothing in her stomach) and not able to keep water down?

it's only started this morning (about 3hrs ago) how long would you give it to improve before you took her to the doctors?

am pretty certain its a bug rather than something she's eaten.

We had this with DD when she was a similar age. She started throwing up half-hourly at about 4am, and finished at about 6pm. She had sips of water in between, but they didn't stay put for long. If it hasn't gone away within roughly 12 hours of the first episode, I'd try ringing the doctor (don't take her, as she'll pass it on to everyone else!)

good point kimberly!

12 hours then, thats about what I was thinking.

I would expect things to start setlling after around 12 hours or so too, encourage lots of little sips of water or dioralyte in between.

It feels like forever when they are vomiting though. Kepp an eye that she is still passing urine, as if she is going 8-12 hours without a wee she may be getting a bit dehydrated.

thanks, we've got some dioralyte, will try her with a little of that later. she's still asleep atm.

brilliant tip about using a teaspoon, she's perked up a bit and has kept down a few teaspoons of water. thanks everyone!

try 5ml of water (teaspoon) every 5 mins - this is what we were told to prevent dehydration. Hope it passes quickly
