Possible to have 'partial' chickenpox?

DS woke this morning with a large blister-type spot under left ear. Has a couple of smaller spots by ear, three in nappy area, one on back, one on chest and one on chin. None are blisters - like small zits really.

Pharmacist didn't give me a straight answer - said calpol for temp (he has none), calamine for itching (he's not) and piriton for itching too (he's not).

He's fine in himself although he has been a pest for the last week or so..maybe feeling under the weather with this brewing?

So wise MNers - chickenpox or not?

It could be, there may be more spots by tonight/tomorrow. some children just don't get many spots.

I've had 2 that were absolutely covered, one with a handful of spots (mainy on scalp so if she'd had more hair would never had noticed them and one in between.

sounds liek it. Give it a day or two and he may well be covered in them.

How old is he? I think the younger they are often the less spots they have or he could just be lucky. DS1 was covered, but DS2 was less than 1 and only had about 8.

You can have a mild outbreak of chickenpox. My DS1 got a very mild bout when he was 10 weeks old (apparently still had my immunity but very lucky considering how dangerous it is for babies under 3mths).

Unfortunately because he had such a mild bout he caught it again when he was 10 months and has had it again since. Dr tells me he needs a really strong dose so he will be immune but until then he has some sort of partial immunity.

Also CP often takes a few days to come out: DD had 6 or 7 spots for a day or two took her to the Dr who ummed and Ahhed and said see what happens and by that night she was covered head to toe.

probably chicken pox

ds has recently had it, the spots took about 2 days to fully appear, it was very slow at first but then they were popping up as I was watching!

He's 2.5.

Is he likely to be poorly with it or is it just spots?

ds is 2.5 too he was ok mostly.

He did get a bit of a temperature, but then it was 2 weeks ago when it was very hot. He went off his food, but he had spots in his mouth so I think eating was painful.

Nappy changes were the worst as he was covered in spots down there before the crusted over they were sticking to the nappy too. Although he'd stopped eating most food he was eating grapes and strawberries, so his nappies were erm, interesting .

Lots of baths helped piriton did seem to knock him out at bedtime, but he didn't like the taste

AddictedtoCrunchies · 14/07/2010 14:44

He's got 3 in his nappy do far. Asleep at the moment so i'm wondering whether he'll have any more when he wakes...

Awake now and a few more spots but really tiny ones. He's just eaten a lunch I'd struggle with so clearly not affecting his appetite.

according to my mother, my older sister (6) was covered, had them in hair, mouth, nose and ears, even one in corner of her eye she was proper poorly for 2 weeks. I (18months) had 3 spots, 1 blister and a slight temperature for 2 days. didnt miss a meal. She says only reason she knew it was CP was because my sister had it at the same time.
It def. was CP too, as have been exposed a thousand times since and not caught it.
