inhalers at bottom of bags!!

Hi, at the risk of sounding paranoid(!), my DD is due to go on a school trip and her inhaler will be in her travel rucksack (which is comprised of just one big compartment). I know inhalers are meant to be stored upright ideally, but will it matter if they are lying flat (or whatever position it will get into).... there is nowhere else for her to put it, no pockets etc.... it's just that my friend said it's dangerous to let them just "loll about". Surely that is not the case? Sorry this is such a strange question!! Thanks.

It's not dangerous, they just don't work properly if they are upside down, she'll have to press it down a few times if she needs it to make sure it's working OK.

I'd give a spare one to the teacher

Thanks, Belle, that's good advice.. .will certainly do that! Thank you.

I have used inhalers for years and was never told it was dangerous. mine just lies around in my handbag.

They don't have to be stored upright, just used upright.

Don't squirt them a few times first as it wastes doses; you just need to keep the lid on to prevent fluff and grot clogging them up, and shake them well before use.

Thanks, Sagacity, my mind has been well and truly put at rest! And thanks Sidge, will put the lid on it!! My DD is 13 now and I am hoping she will grow out of it, has had it since 2 years old, but at each annual asthma review she gets a better "peak flow" and actual incidences of (much milder) attacks are thankfully rare. Thanks so much.

I have brittle asthma ,comes on fast and furious, and I have often got stuck with inhaler at bottom of handbags. solely due to panic and have ended up emptying whole bag on shop floors, tube stations, planes etc.to try and find it.

My kids are now adamant I have a handbag with a side pocket with words of "for heavens sake mum be responsible !!"

Love it when they get to the age when they look out for you!

So moral of story get a bag with a pocket.

or a slides onto a belt pouch.

turbohalers don't care what way up they are stored and have no sticky out bits to fluff up or snag.
