Fiction Books on World War 2 suitable for a 4 year old?

DD (3.11) is FASCINATED with WW 2. On holiday, stuck in a traffic jam, I basically told her the story of my family, inc my granddad, who fought at Dunkirk and DDay. I also talked about how my mum has vague memories of bombing from when she was a child. I have since got 'The Lion and the Unicorn' out of the library which is quite a long story about a evacuee, but with beautiful pictures (by the sainted Shirley Hughes, who both DD and I love.)

DD is just about at the stage of enjoying some 'big books' with chapters. We are working our way through the first Harry Potter and she enjoys it. I just wondered if anyone knew of any books aimed at younger children that covered this period. I have fond memories of some great books from childhood, but I think they all for older children - When Hitler Killed Pink Rabbit, Goodnight Mr Tom, The Machine Gunners, The Silver Sword etc

Any suggestions appreciated!

Erring on the other side (too babyish) but if you happen to have a copy of Peepo around from when she was little you could go through that and point out the WW2 setting.

Moving on to more age-appropriate stuff...

In My Pocket? (about a six-year old on the Kindertransport heading to a new life in Scotland)

Lisette's Angel? (life in occupied France)

War Boy? (Michael Foreman's autobiographical account of a wartime childhood)

Tail-End Charlie? (author recounts his father's stories of the war)

Shoes for Amelie? (French boy and his family shelter a young Jewish girl) (not sure what happens in the end, though...)

There are others that are more American in emphasis (e.g. Nim and the War Effort, Blueberries for the Queen, Rosie the Riveter (Catherine Lukas)).

Wow thanks! They look great - particularly 'In My Pocket' and 'War Boy'.
