Science books for babies

Hi,
We are trying to look for a bit different books for our 1,5 year old girl.

She gets her fair share of the normal princess fairytales and picture books as well but any ideas or advise on something a bit out of the ordinary would be very helpful, such as science books aimed for babies or very young children. Anyone?

Thank you very much!

I just get educational books out from the library that are intended for older children and they have really gripped dd eg she learnt to recognise dozens of birds like buzzards, humming birds, parrots etc at this age. I think books for older readers sometimes a nice contrast as dd loves learning lots of new things from the pictures eg of a skeleton and a nice contrast to her picture books and stories. Otherwise no ideas!

the story of the little mole who knew it was none of his business is certainly a bit out of the ordinary and I guess it could be construed as science

Otherwise just as looselead suggests - go to library and just choose whatever takes her fancy

We've just been looking for similar, though DD1 is 2.5 so a bit older. Usborne and Dorling Kindersley have the best selection of non-fiction books. Agree with the suggestion to have a look in the library, ours has a good selection of non-fiction and DD1 has been fascinated with some of the science books, we try and always get at least one non-fiction book out at a time.

Yes, Usborne Beginners in particular are lovely - huge range of subjects and really nicely illustrated, loads of full-page photos etc. DC started off with some of the animal ones, now liking ones about machines, geography, etc. They're also good for when they start learning to read, not too intimidating re quantity of text, depending on level.

We have this which is quite cool but v. big (A3 size), have to put it on the ground and let DC crawl over it..
