DS (6) nearly exhausted Roald Dahl books - any other suggestions of books I can read to him?

He especially loves Matilda and The Witches.

We've moved on to Mr Gum but I am laughing more than him.....I think he may be a little young.

We read Beast Quest together which he thinks is OK, but generally he's not really into knights and battles and so on.

He loves Merlin and Doctor Who on TV but less keen on the reading books of same.

Boy in the dress by David Walliams is quite roald dahlesque.

whyme2 · 01/05/2010 22:11

Don't rule out re reading them. My dd's love some stuff again and again.

Just recently read BadJelly the witch by spike Milligan, there are others that he has written as well.

Dizzeee · 01/05/2010 22:13

And the michael rosen poems - my dc really liked them.

well i sort of do and don't recommend Treasure Island

ds's great uncle gave hm a copy and he's really loved it

but we do have to explain a lot about what's going on, and some bits are a bit gruesome for me him

just a suggestion really

ds loves the Allan Ahlberg ones called something like 'the man who wore all his clothes', they're very funny

the roddy doyle kids books are funny and DD2 has just finished "Granny Nothing" and liked it - can't remember author and its on her bed at minute so can't check!

taffetacat · 02/05/2010 09:09

Thanks all.

choosy - yes we have read all the Allan Ahlberg ones twice but as whyme2 says I may re read them, he did enjoy them. They don't get as bored as we do eh?

Didn't know Spike Milligan had written any children's books - will do some research thanks.

I think he may be a bit young for a few of the suggestions but I will keep a note of for a few years' time.

I will also make a note of the Michael Rosen poems for future as DD (3.9)is very keen on lyrical verse.

Granny Nothing is by Cathy MacPhail.

the fudge books by Judy Blume are great (nothing like her books for older girls, don't worry)
